North Carolina E-Waste Laws

North Carolina’s electronics recycling law went into effect in 2010 and includes both a landfill ban and producer responsibility requirements. The law makes it illegal to dispose of most electronics in landfills and requires manufacturers of televisions and computer equipment to register with the state and fund recycling programs. Counties are responsible for providing permanent, free collection sites, supported in part by manufacturer fees. The program is administered by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NC DEQ).
