New Jersey E-Waste Laws

New Jersey established its statewide e-waste recycling program in 2007 under the Electronics Waste Management Act. The law mandates that manufacturers of covered electronics finance collection and recycling for residents. Since 2011, it has been illegal to dispose of many electronics in landfills or incinerators. All counties and most municipalities offer drop-off locations or events, and consumers can recycle eligible electronics at no cost. The program is overseen by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP).
