Illinois E-Waste Laws

Illinois logo

Illinois passed its e-waste recycling law in 2008, establishing a statewide program that places the burden of collection and recycling on electronics manufacturers. The program is based on a manufacturer-funded model and covers a broad range of electronics. Since 2012, it has been illegal to dispose of many electronics in Illinois landfills. Municipalities and collectors coordinate collection events or drop-off locations, while manufacturers must meet annual weight-based recycling goals.
